I’ve been learning Portuguese off and on for a few months now from songs, my Brazilian girlfriend, and Duolingo. I’ve gotten the hang of pronouncing most letters and knowing when to use the correct one, but some things seem conflicting with the letters D and T.

From what I’ve read and heard, D followed by E or I is pronounced as /djee/, such as fidelidade or Embrazadihna, but why is the first D in fidelidade not pronounced as /djee/? Some things I’ve seen consider the e at the end to be unstressed, which confuses me on stressed vs unstressed.

Likewise, would Bolo de Rolo and Rio de Janeiro be pronounced as /djee/?

Thanks.

EIA: Forgot to ask about T. I’ve seen the same deal with being followed by letters E and I for T as being pronounced /tchee/ and when followed by R, it’s /t/, but what about other letters such as A, O, and U?
