Details

  • This position is full-time, salary, in our Portland headquarters located in the north end of the Pearl district

Responsibilities

  • Develop web application and services that power the Opal Platform in languages like Ruby, Elixir, and Javascript
  • Debug, test, and support our existing Ruby-on-Rails, Phoenix, and NodeJS applications
  • Write and ship new {JSON:API} API endpoints with 100% test coverage via Grape with shared API RAML contracts
  • Architect, deploy, and monitor the Opal infrastructure servers and services for uptime, performance, and stability
  • Participate in product workshopping to help determine new features and initiatives
  • Collaborate with Designers, Front-end developers, and Mobile engineers to dream up the next big thing

Skills

  • 3-4 years of relevant experience developing software applications
  • 2 years of experience crafting production-grade web applications backends
  • Strong knowledge of web application architecture patterns and pitfalls (MVC, SOA, etc)
  • Strong familiarity with at least one modern OOP language such Ruby or Python
  • Some familiarity with at least one functional language, such as Elixir or Clojure
  • Some familiarity with Ruby/Elixir-based web frameworks such as Rails and Phoenix
  • Some familiarity with front-end Javascript libraries and frameworks, such as EmberJS, React, AngularJS, etc
  • Ability to solve complex problems under pressure.
  • Ability to break down complicated issues, communicating with stakeholders and delegating to team members, as needed.
