When it is hot and dry in the spring, we see an increase in fleas.
Their breeding ground is dry dirt and wood chips. Our chunka-squirl population is also contributing.
It’s going to rain next week, but it’s already happening.
EDIT: boogiewithasuitcase - is correct. The majority of the info on fleas is that they thrive in damp, shady areas.
My info is coming from a Veterinarian on Woodstock, that sees the majority of bad flea years when Portland has dry Springs. My guess is, our “dry” is other places moist.
