My dad just bought a 2016 porsche cayenne s e-hybrid with 20,000 miles on it and I just have a couple of questions on how the car works.
Most importantly I wanna make sure this IS a hybrid in that it uses both gas and electricity together to save on gas. Im reading online that it uses electric for 27 miles then switches to pure gas, which if is the case then that's not what my dad is looking for. The dealer told us that the mpg was 47 if the engine and battery aren't working in conjunction then I don't see how this car can achieve that efficiency.
if it operates like a hybird then what exactly does the E-charge button do? I know that on the porsche website it says, "E-CHARGE mode, the high-voltage battery can be charged while driving", but thats also the 17-18 manual. Does that mean if I don't press the button the engine isn't going to charge the battery? I thought the point of hybrids was that the engine was always charging the battery. Also there are two sport mode buttons on the dash. One activates the chassis (comfort, sport, and sport plus), but then under it next to the E-power, which I understand is if you want to use just electric, that when I turn it on it just says sport on my dash and nothing else. What is the difference between the two, and how exactly does the e-charge work? I thought that just driving the car the engine will charge the battery automatically, do I have to manually press the button and turn that option on every time I want to charge the battery while driving? When i was driving it home the little animation on the dash did show that the engine was charging the battery and the battery did get like a bar or two.
