To anyone dealing with a Cayenne that has a “shutter,” “stutter,” or otherwise clunky feeling that occurs when the auto shifts from 2-3 and 3-4….LET ME SAVE YOU A TON OF MONEY! I just picked up a 2012 3.6 with only 65k miles immaculately maintained all at Porsche. It was experiencing this stutter. I researched and read that, when under warranty, Porsche dealers would just swap out the transfer case to fix the problem. I’m obviously not under warranty and that would cost around $4k at my Indy shop. Worse at Porsche. I read further that others had success by simply changing the transfer case fluid. So I called my Indy shop, Rennen Imports here in Tampa. They said “oh yeah, we do that all the time and it fixes it.” So, to cut to the chase, their method is to flush and refill. Then they take the truck for a ride to heat up the fluid. Then they flush and refill a second time. WORKS LIKE A CHARM. So, if you experience this symptom, give this ~$300 solution a try.
