I live on a brackish river that empties into a salt water/brackish bay (Mobile Bay). I've had boats all my life, but never had a pontoon. Well, now that my kids are grown and the wife isn't interested in fishing or doing anything in choppy water, I've decided to get a pontoon. It's going to stay in my boat lift, so trailering isn't much of an issue. Honestly it's mainly going to get used going on sunset booze cruises, running up to the marina, and some inshore fishing. I don't want anything longer than maybe 21'. I have a very nice 150hp Yamaha that I'd like to keep and use to repower a toon.
I just can't see spending $60-70,000 on a pontoon for what I'm going to be doing with it. Before Covid, Crestliner had a 20' tritoon that was rated for a 150. And it was pretty reasonable. But I waited and then they seemed to stop making pontoon boats. So what brands would you suggest? Bennington seems a bit pricey on the one end, while Sun Chaser seems cheap (and cheaply made). Any 20-22' pontoons/tritoons you can recommend I look at that run in the $30s without a motor?
