Polkadot portal slow & Staking - Help!

Hi guys,
Wanted to check with the community a couple of things:
1/ Does anyone also encounter that https://polkadot.js.org/ is extremely slow?
2/ I am finding the stake process with DOT a tad complicated. When Staking your DOT:
2.a.: How do you get to nominate more than one validator at once? Even though I am selecting several validators (9 in total), all my DOT is allocated to the same validator - which I find a bit risky
2.B.: How do I ensure I chose a validator that will be "active"? Out of all 9 validators I chose, only one is active, the rest are either inactive or unelected.
