The recent (apparent) attempt to block off funding for Kusama's RPC endpoints by the "activist investor" known as HACN has highlighted the importance of light clients in working around this centralization choke point. Substrate-connect is a Chrome extension that embeds light clients for Substrate chains in the browser.
After installing the Substrate-connect extension and selecting "light client (experimental)" as the endpoint in Polkadot.js, Substrate-connect is showing Kusama as connected and synchronized (latest block = 17,060,222 which is about 500,000 blocks behind). Polkadot.js displays "Waiting to establish a connection with the remote endpoint" which never happens. Toggling the default bootnode options doesn't see to make any difference.
Any ideas on a next step to getting Polkadot.js (or anything else) routing through the light client successfully?
