For background: the US, Germany, and several other Western nations defunded the UN's relief program earlier this week following allegations by Israel that 12 of the 13,000 UNWRA workers in Gaza might have been associated with the October 7 attack. These allegations were made on the basis of interrogations that several human rights groups allege regularly involve torture.
UNWRA responded by firing most of the accused without due process and opening investigations into the last accused employee. However, the US and the other Western nations in question proceeded to cut 2/3rds of the funding for UNWRA.
What is the logic for this move by the US? Does this go against the ICJ's order to Israel to prevent genocide in Gaza by ensuring the appropriate provision of aid?
