Hi. A short review/summary of purchasing process of my newest sports watch. In bullet style.
- came from ignite 2, vantage v, Apple Watch and fenix 5 plus
- choice was between Garmin Epix Pro gen 2, Garmin Venu 3, Garmin Fenix 7, Apple Watch, Polar Ignite 3 and Polar Vantage v3
- decided to go for VV3 mainly because Polar takes weight lifting training more into account for their metrics than Garmin, making many of Garmin’s metrics useless to me. Was doubting a bit because of body battery/venu 3 but in the end I’m very happy with nightly recharge. Also Garmin hardware is too bulky for me
- ECG reports are quite useful. Especially PAT.
- Hardware is great: light, a subtle design that looks like a regular smartwatch
- rest coach during weightlifting is much more valuable than thought. It keeps my weight lifting sessions tighter and more focused.
- several usability additions like a continuous hr graph, less/no lag, more overview screens etc.
- GPS accuracy is perfect for me but I live I a medium sized European city with no sky scrapers.
- HR accuracy is also better but I use chest straps anyway because of half of my training is weight lifting.
- didn’t chose ignite3 because pricier was only - 120 more and felt like V3 could receive more updates than the 2 year old Ignite3.
One suggestion though: could use graphs e.g. to show HRV evolution at night. Edit: I’ve put it wrong; I meant an evolution of (average/max/min) HRV values per night plotted over a longer time period for instance.
All in all: great value for money (paid about 450 euro) and very happy with it.
