Shiny Hunting Ponyta

This is my first time attempting to shiny hunt something in a Pokemon game. So I got the 31 catch combo on Ponyta, I have the Shiny Charm and I've been on Route 17 for about 5 hours now and not one shiny pokemon of any species has appeared.....how do y'all do this? This is mind-numbing lmao.
