I have a catch combo of 101 and after 15 hours, still no shiny. Am I missing something here?

After I hit 31, I slowed down my catches and continued to slow the longer I went. I was mostly just catching out of boredom at that point until I came to only having a handful of balls left, at which point I stopped catching and started luring and running from everything, waiting for a shiny to pop.
But no shiny has popped.
The game says my combo is still active, and I have not done anything to the game except put the console to idle mode last night and a couple of times today (never exiting the game).
So... Am I just unlucky? I feel like I've run into several hundred of them now, and still nothing. I'm starting to go insane.
