First of all, I'm going to start off this story by announcing that one of my acquaintances on Facebook attempted to kayak to find water types. He's disappointed in the results or lack thereof.
So! Keep in mind that I'm an incoming senior in college working on campus during the summer. Our campus is divided into an academic half and a dorm half -- not intentionally, as there are some academic buildings on the dorm half and vice versa, but that's generally how it is. And all of the Pokestops are on the academic quad.
I got out of work today and figured I might as well get as much PoGo in as possible before it started raining. I'd already cancelled plans, a friend was going to pick me up and we were going to PoGo -- three of us, all from different teams. Oh well!
Pretty quickly after I start wandering, I see kids up on top of a hill/"ampitheater" and figured they were probably playing. I wander around a bit and see a Growlithe! Awesome. I go pick it up, then wander back.
I start heading up a garden with a Pokestop that leads to two more up a hill, and I see the kids.
"Hey! Are you guys doing Pokemon?" Yep!
"Are you looking for a Growlithe?" Yep again! And I point them in the direction.
I see a few more groups wandering around and wave hi, then set up a lure where I saw the kids originally. Of course, they all run over and go for a Magikarp... and then it starts raining.
But as I'm about to fold and head out, I look down... Dratini?? Oh hell no I am not letting this get away. I head down the hill and towards where I suspect it is, along a stream/lake where I usually see rare Pokemon and water types.
A bunch of kids have taken shelter under a tree - not much as it's getting heavier - and I do the usual callout.
"I'm like, 90% determined to get this Dratini."
"IT'S OVER HERE!!" And they all start pointing next to them, and I scurry over -- and what do you know! Dratini.
We talk for a second and determine that we're all Mystic, then I exchange high-fives, wait to see if the rain dies, and eventually head out.
Anyway! That was my half hour of Pokemon Go today. Hopefully it doesn't keep raining tomorrow!
