I was teaching today and talked to my nursing students about the importance of preventing elopement (making sure dementia patients don’t accidentally escape the facility and hurt themselves).

I mentioned to lock the doors so the “patients can’t elope”. And then I thought of the phrase “patient’s cantaloupe” like the fruit, and started giggling to myself. One of the students got it and started giggling, which made me giggle even more. I spent a good 15 seconds trying to explain the dad joke to them, but they had the most confused look on their faces. So I just moved on, and now I have the slightest fear that they think i’m the crazy teacher that randomly thinks about melons and laughs about it.
