I love sitting in airports
A fast-forwarded perspective on humanity
I play games with the other people
They don't know that, of course
“Mistress or daughter” is a fun one.
I voice the dialogue of quiet phone conversations in my mind
Affairs, deaths, births, minor inconveniences.
I see families reuniting
Lovers, businessmen, tourists
Then there's me:
Sitting,
Watching,
Eating a cheap burger.
I never feel lonely in an airport
Everyone shares the slight injustices
Everyone is in a rush
Everyone hopes they won't be seated next to a baby
Or a fat person
Or a talker
Even they hope that.
Most people think they are better drivers than everyone else.
Distorted announcements ring out
What they say is unimportant
We all know what they mean
People are leaving
People are coming
People will be later than normal
People will be earlier than normal
It's the same thing really.
Time barely exists.
Another garbled voice,
This one for me
Time to join the people leaving
Line up in seat order
I'm next to a fat lady
Oh she has an infant
I don't mind,
I got a pat down from security
I'm sure I'm a problem too.
