Oooh, I like the form. She starts just counting up the creatures, feeling her anxious heart race, but you can see her mind wander - appreciation at the animals, awe, fear of the lions, grief at the vanished world, dread of what’s to come and fear that they won’t make it through.

A great example of saying a lot with a little!
