I first came across this poem about 50 years ago in an literature anthology school book. Every google search I can think of has eluded me. As a matter of fact, I was at a funeral about 12 years ago and heard someone quote the last lines from across the room.
It starts with "Lord, never grant me what I ask for/For the unforeseen delights me" and finishes with grant me the joy "of turning a dark corner and knowing that one step back my soul still lived"
I believe the author is South American. You're my last hope!!
