I take a moment to catch my breath

I glance back to see a steep mountain

When had I climbed so far?

Looking forward I see water cascading like a fountain

I take a few steps, my shoes coated in tar,

This journey hasn't been easy

Then again it was never meant to be

Forging a new path

I step into the water, sitting down as if in a bath

I submerge myself, holding my breathe

Washing away the things that clung to me

It's when I feel lighter I break through the surface

It's dark, the soft sound of water dripping

Echoing as if in a cave

I feel I'm almost there

I stand to my feet, clothes heavy

I keep going though I'm shivering

Each step a blind act of faith

But I can tell there is something/someone waiting for me at the end

My hands touch the uneven yet damp surface

Helping me closer to my destination

It's when I notice light filter into view

I take in a sharp inhale

I move a bit faster

My skin beginning to feel numb to the cold

I stumble and I fall

I suck in a breath through my teeth

A warmth felt around my knees and my palms

This was likely to happen

It takes me a moment but I gather my wits and quickly stand to my feet

Slight limping I know I'm bleeding

But I have to keep going

This isn't the first time I've been knocked down

It won't be the last

But I'm determined

Even if it takes me until my last breath

I'll reach my dreams

Just like I'll find you

I will have happiness

I will have peace

I will have abundance

And I'll have love

Until my last breath
