There is a great war
Unseen to the eye
Battles won
But many lives taken
The enemy
Is unlike any villain
More like a monster
And not one of fiction
We have learned
To combat it
To fight it
To defend against it
But not defeat it
Even the weapons
We have made to defend
Can fail without warning
Allowing the monster to win
How can we trust
The very defenses
Told to save lives
But cause more harm
Then if we were alone
Or trust the so-called experts
Who have studied from afar
But never truly facing
Or battling the monster
This enemy
This monster
Has the ability
To corrupt our greatest ally
Ourselves
If we cannot trust ourselves
How then will we be able
To trust a guiding hand
A light in this darkness
Me like, so many others
Are waging a war
That we never asked for
Against an Enemy
We will never truly know
Who is stronger some days
And weaker on others
But does not change the fact
That it will be waiting
On the battle lines of our mind
The hardest Saddest truth
About it all
Is that no matter
How well we defend
How many allies
We surround ourselves with
It uses our own hand
To complete its dirty work
This is not a story
Of fiction or make belief
But the real struggle
That so many of us
Wage in our mind
There is no happy ending
For most
So neither will this telling
