We have a cabin/cottage in Northern Canada that we plan to visit in winter. Cabin is insulated but with temp going down to -20F (-30C) on some occasions I think we are not going to be able to keep the water running when we are away. We would visit every few weeks when temps are more reasonable, 15F (-10C) and in those cases stove and electric heating should keep it at 20C inside and I am not worried about freezing pipes. Our water line to the well is insulated and has a heat line so I am not worried.
Our current plan is to drain the water every time we visit. Currently this process is very slow (1h ) and labour intensive as last bits of water in the water heater take ages to drain (40 minutes). I have two access points to hook up air compressor to make the process quicker, ideally I would want to be able the close the cottage in 10 minutes.
Access Points:
1) Bottom of the water heater (picture 3) but I have to wait for all the water to be drained
2) Pump room (picture 1) but in that case I might be blowing the air into the well which I am I am not sure if its a good idea. Picture is the UV filter between picture 1 and house. Also this requires me to take the compressor outside possibly in snow which is doable buy annoying. Ideally I would have access point in the house.
My questions:
1) Are there any issues with connecting the compressor to the line from Picture 1
2) Are there any other ideas how we could speed up the process.
