Can I reuse a brass tank tee that had galvanized steel in it?

I believe that little nipple is galvanized. Looks like they may have used Teflon tape or someone. Am I good to pull that out and transition to PVC there? Or will those female threads on the brass tank tee be shot? I'm not sure why they did this little tiny bit of pipe with galvanized. It's the only 1.5ft of galvanizing the entire house. :/ Thanks!
