Sitting here with my family thunder storm raging outside and no internet. Which means no Plex. My lan is perfectly fine humming along all my Media just sitting on my NAS, somehow completely out of reach to my Plex in the next room.
Why do I have to log in to a remote server to access content on my local network?
You can't set it up while offline. You can put the IP in but it won't find a server. If you set it up while online it will continue to work with only LAN. I will look at jellyfin I'm going to be moving away from Plex.
You need to set it up to connect directly BEFOR YOU NEED TO CONNECT DIRECTLY. you can not connect directly for the first time without access to the web.
I can confirm this does not work unless done before the internet goes out.
I can confirm you have to set this up with internet access the first time. you can not connect to the server directly with no internet if you haven't connected directly in the past.
This doesn't appear to work while offline. I've entered the IP which is all it asks for and it finds no servers. Original server not showing up either. Do you have to be logged in to the mother ship to set up lan only streaming?
Did you try setting it up with the internet unavailable?
I have 3 Xbox 1 smart tv and 3 PC. All of them show server unavailable. Other than the PC that has the drive I use for a NAS in it.
Yes but none of them were previously bypassing the mother ship, and none of them would connect before the internet was repaired. I get there are work arounds you can set up in advance but why won't lan work natively? It did when Plex was released.
The moneyship, sorry mother ship was a step backwards for Plex, In my opinion. I miss good old original Plex that worked and didn't need to milk you for money.

The purpose of the mother ship is to encourage people to buy the other services and products they have available to "complement" the Plex experience.
