Background: I currently have a boxee box that is aging and I want to replace it. I had burned my entire DVD collection some years ago to ISO files that reside on a Synology DS413 NAS drive which the boxee box handles just fine. My goal is to find a one size fits all media streamer that is easy to use (for parents and the like) can access netflix, prime, hbogo AND access my local content. Plex always required a PC to act as a server in between (which I dont want) and the client on a local device, but I learned recently I can run the server from certain NAS drives.
My questions:
Can plex server be run from my particular NAS w/o a PC? What is the performance like?
Does the plex client on a roku 3 support ISO playback with DD/DTS 5.1 audio? What is the performance like?
Thanks!
