Ive spent about a week trying everything to make my Synology NAS (DS213j) work with the laptop I am using as a server for remote access. It works local without issue, but the remote option is failing every time even when I have utilized port forwarding. Yes, I did go the route of using plex from the package center, but that did not work either and remote still fails.
My Synology is on a static IP, I do not have a VPN running on it, I utilized port forwarding to Plex's 32400 port and tried both port 5000 and 5001 from my end, but it still did not work. I have a pair of external WD drives that I have used for some time as they just plug directly into the laptop's USB and remote access works without an issue via that method.
The Synology is plugged directly into my router, I have no issues accessing the IP and making any changes necessary. I did turn off the firewall as part of testing and as stated earlier no VPN as part of testing. Im feeling a bit out of options at this point as I did check in the sub as well as searching via plex, synology and doing google-fu, but I havent gotten any detailed and useful explination of the issue or other directions I can take it.
Any help would be appreciated. Im always glad to have missed something simple or easy that I can document for myself in the future.
