Cant play videos in hq when playing them on my tv

Hello, I have recently created my own plex server, I also have access to friends server. Whenever I play movies from my own server on my TV, they do not play in hq but on my laptop they do. My friends server runs great on both my laptop and tv. My question is - why dont movies run well when i run them on my tv when the server is on my own laptop. Is there something i could do to change this? Thanks
