I've got quite a few Liberator certs and I absolutely love flying it. I love having the AA tailgun, and the awesome feeling I get when my bottom gunner smashes tanks to bits with the 105mm cannon, or when I evade Skyguard flak cannons and land with 5% of my health remaining, repair my damage, and get back into the fight.
BUT, I always feel like I'm getting bled down by small arms fire, a single Mosquito with the default machinegun, a gunner on any MBT, a couple of burster MAXes, and other silly things that shouldn't be able to take down a 'flying fortress' that easily.
Small arms fire from a large infantry group can reduce my health about 5~10%. That seems a little silly especially since I'm hovering 500~750 meters in the air. Is there not any damage dropoff for infantry weapons?
A single Mosquito/Scythe harassing me with its machinegun will force me to land and repair without any real effort on the Mosquito's part. Yes, I attempt to evade as best I can, but as highly maneuverable fighters they don't have trouble catching up to me despite my having thruster/speed performance certs and above average piloting skills. The AA tailgun on the Liberator has hilariously bad lead, and without a secondary reticle (one that dynamically moves to compensate for the Lib's movement), even an experienced gunner would have trouble fending off fighters with it. The Liberator is pretty slow as it is.
A couple of burster MAXes accomplish much the same thing as a single Mosquito/Scythe, but it's far worse because it takes my gunner a few seconds to identify where the flak is coming from; by that time 30% of my health is gone and I soon have to bug out and repair.
A MBT's default machinegun can bleed the Liberator's health pretty badly even if it's just taking some potshots... feels like 10~15% of my health is gone after flying over a couple of tanks.
In the end, the Liberator is still an aircraft that should be able to get shot down by AA, but it just feels a little too squishy to be able to deal with the things I've mentioned. In order for my bottom gunner to get any good shots in, I have to hover within weapons range of most AA as the Liberator cannon doesn't seem to do any damage when I'm hovering at 750 meters (yet other things can still hit me from the ground).
