Aerial maneuvers: what is there and how to do them?
Post Body

Background: I've been play PS2 for about three days and I can use ground vehicles pretty well, and I was also a Starsiege: Tribes & Tribes 2 player where I used aerial vehicles to a small extent. PS2 is the first game where I actually want to fly.

I'm just getting the hang of flying Reavers and Liberators, and I can do some basic stuff like aileron rolls and barrel rolls, but now I want to know of some "advanced" aerial maneuvers, like how to make it easier for my gunners to line up shots, how to make myself more difficult to hit, and dodging missile locks.

Some general tips that I probably don't know about are also very welcome.

My control scheme:

I use a PS3 SIXAXIS controller: http://www.ps3hax.net/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/sixaxis-impressions-20061020042258211.jpg

  • Left joystick: increase/decrease throttle

  • Right joystick: pitch up/down, roll left/right

  • Directional pad: ascend/descend (aka bottom and top thrusters), yaw left/right

  • L1/L2: 100%/0% throttle

  • R1: fire

  • R2: nothing

  • Circle: reload

  • Cross (X): primary ability

  • Square: secondary ability

Recommendations to change to my control scheme are welcome; I'm willing to re-learn if it ultimately makes my flying easier and better.
