Hey everyone! So I know that ya'll were talking about how the skybox massively changed how the game looks, but I just wanted to bring up terrain.
Updating terrain would definitely hurt performance, however, it is incredibly needed when you are close to the texture. For example, on hossin (where I got these pics from) the textures up close look disgusting, like no hate towards the devs obviously, but these textures should definitely be updated in the future. I hope that the textures can be like this at range (basically to save them precious frames) while within 10m the terrain is high quality. I am playing with terrain on the max settings and these definitely are not max quality terrain. I am fine if when I am indoors (where a ton of fights happen) terrain renders at this low-quality state, but having this be what the terrain looks like even when I am close to it just makes the game look low quality.
Another thing I kind of hope for the future is also to improve the clipping in between two textures, some of the textures below are very much streeeeetched to be connected between each other, causing these gross-looking rocks that are even lower quality than others. Also a small fix is the angular connections (as seen in the first pic) where it just looks unnatural.
What do you guys think? I know terrain is a really small part of the game, but I can't say that some maps (most notably hossin and amerish) with a lot of rocks look low quality like my pics below. I don't know how much of a performance penalty it would be to have high quality terrain become high quality at close, but it would overall make the game look loads better. (this isn't as a ez fix as just changing the skybox, but it is important to have in the future since it seems like DBG is trying to grow the game and continue to improve it)
