Preliminary thoughts on implant balance, with some ideas for new ones.
Post Body

Ammo Printer

I would ordinarily object to this, as it undermines the role of the Engineer, but the cooldown is significant enough that I think it would not interfere with their role or the Phaseshift's role. Pretty neat overall, especially the vehicle-replenishment part.

Assimilate

NO. This artificially exacerbates the skill gap between those who can reliably ping headshots and those who can't even further. That is not something the game needs right now.

Battle Hardened

Screen shake should not be something you can toggle. Either make it apply to everyone, or nobody. I'd prefer the latter.

Catlike

I really like this one. However, I think complete removal of the crouch penalty seems a bit off. I'd like to offer an alternative upgrade schema:

  • Tier 1: Reduces the movement speed penalty for crouching by 40%.

  • Tier 2: Reduces the movement speed penalty for crouching by 50%.

  • Tier 3: Reduces the movement speed penalty for crouching by 65%.

  • Tier 4: Reduces the movement speed penalty for crouching by 65%, and your sprint speed is increased by 10%.

  • Tier 5: Reduces the movement speed penalty for crouching by 80%, and your sprint speed is increased by 10%.

This would offer an interesting alternative by not requiring max-tier to get the sprint speed bonus (something I would quite like) while still leaving max-tier as an upgrade worth getting to.

Counter-Intelligence

Overall very solid, but I have an idea to take it one step further. Add the ability to detect the origin of lock-ons, from both infantry and vehicles. This does work for infantry users.

If you have spotted a friendly vehicle recently, any lock-ons applying to it will visually show their origin point with a red dot emitting rings and showing how far it is from you, and a mark on the map (radar style) that dissipates a few seconds after the lock-on is canceled. If the lock-on originates from an infantry unit, the map dot dissipates much faster and it offers no distance information.

Focus

Interesting choice to roll Enhanced Targeting into the Hold Breath implant, and I really like that the base tier implant has all the functionality except for better hold time. This may need to be a default implant.

Minor Cloak

I heavily dislike the degree to which this infringes on Stalker Cloak, and it could get very dangerous very quickly. What I might like is for it to have a loud noise on decloak, and a one second delay before the cloaker can use any items. This makes it substantially inferior to Stalker for the purpose of stealth attacks, but still gives it functionality for setting up ambushes.

Regeneration

Not bad until the top tier. The "health on headshot kill" is again one of those things that amplifies the skill discrepancy.

What I'd offer instead is an area of effect boost - when you're recovering health using regeneration, nearby allies also recover health at a rate of 5 health per second, which can stack with other Regeneration implants, both people's personal implants and others' T5 implant "auras" (up to a maximum of 35 health per second on each person, the same as a T5 implant itself).

It's far inferior to the boost provided by a Medic, but would allow small Medic-free groups to administer basic healing and create a very interesting niche. For anyone looking at this, remember that regeneration only applies when you're out of combat.

Safe Fall

I love the concept of total fall damage immunity, but at the same time, it seems potentially overpowered - every air vehicle would become an "Ejection Seat" vehicle. That said, I still think it's worth a go.

Sweeper HUD

I don't know that I like this as is. Distance-finding and mine detection contribute to two different roles. It's nicely complementary for vehicle use, but not so much for infantry.

Vampire

I have no problems with this.

intermission because this section break is awkward

Now that the existing implants are done with, time for the new ones!

Rumble Upgrade

Single-tier implant.

Tier 1: You can perform wielded melee attacks while sprinting. You take 10% less damage from all sources of damage within 5 meters while actively wielding a knife. 10% faster melee attack rate.

This is an implant dedicated to close quarters battle. The melee attack rate boost applies to quick melee as well, but the sprint upgrade does not. It complements Vampire nicely, but is useful for any situation in which your knife might become involved.

Field Harmonics Detector

Multi-tier implant.

Tier 1: Detects enemy cloaking fields within a maximum range of 20 meters and outputs a noise. More frequent and louder pulses indicate higher proximity.

Tier 2: Detects enemy cloaking fields within a maximum range of 30 meters and outputs a noise. More frequent and louder pulses indicate higher proximity.

Tier 3: Detects enemy cloaking fields within a maximum range of 40 meters and outputs a noise. More frequent and louder pulses indicate higher proximity.

Tier 4: Detects enemy cloaking fields and infantry-detecting devices within a maximum range of 40 meters and outputs a noise. More frequent and louder pulses indicate higher proximity.

Tier 5: Detects enemy cloaking fields and infantry-detecting devices within a maximum range of 40 meters and outputs a noise. More frequent and louder pulses indicate higher proximity. The range and strength is tripled for vehicles.

The primary function of this is an imprecise method of detecting cloaked Infiltrators or cloaked vehicles. You are given no directional cues, just range, and deep cloak is more difficult to detect. The higher tiers also allow for detection of autonomous anti-infantry devices, such as AI mines, Spitfire turrets and motion detectors - if you don't want this functionality, you can stay at Tier 3 without issue.

Each threat would have its own distinct pulse. This would not be empire-specific, but would be different between cloak, AI mines, Spitfires etc.

Please keep in mind this is all speculative. Ultimately, DBG has a lot better idea of what goes on than I do, but I still want to pitch in with my two cents - hopefully something cool comes of this.
