So I went through all of the animals in planet zoo and ordered them based on where they were from. Here were the results

So when making my zoos I wanted to look at all of the various animals and where they were from because I wanted to theme my zoo based on where the animals originate from (namely continents). I made a list as to where all the animals were from and these were the results. Note if an animal lives on multiple different continents I counted them for all of them. For example, polar bears can live in north America, Europe, and Asia so I counted them for all three.  Here were the results, from most animals to least, also this includes exhibit animals

Africa

To the surprise of absolutely nobody, Africa has the largest amount of animals with a total of 38. This makes a ton of sense since a lot of the most popular zoo animals are African. 34 of the 38 can be used in enclosures and the vast majority of them are completely unique to the continent with only a few acceptions like cheetahs and lions.

Asia

Coming in second place is Asia with 34 total animals. Asia is a surprisingly diverse continent as this includes everything from Russia to Indonesia. Another interesting tidbit is that Asia shares animals with a lot of different continents, namely North America, Europe, and Africa. 32 of the Asian animals are found in enclosures while only two are relegated to exhibits, with is a surprisingly low amount

South America

In third place, we have South America with a total of 23 animals. South America is unique in that it is the only continent that has more exhibits than enclosure animals, with a whopping 13 exhibit animals compared to 10 enclosure animals. This makes a bit of sense since South America is home to a lot of different frogs, reptiles, and large arthropods. (this ratio would be a bit better if the green iguana was an enclosure animal instead of an exhibit animal but whatever)

Noth America

In fourth place is North America with 22 total animals, only one under South America. Now, this might have been closer if it weren’t for the way I counted things. Because central America (namely Mexico and anything below) has wildlife more akin to South America I counted all animals that appear in central America as south American, maybe I’ll go back and look at things a second time and the ratios between the two continents will be a bit better. But as of now, they are about even. NA has 17 enclosure animals to 5 exhibit animals

Europe

In fifth place in Europe with a total of 13. This kind of makes sense as, no offense to Europeans, Europe has the most unimpressive wildlife overall. First off even in the game most of the European animals are only in because they came from other continents. Of the 13 animals here 9 of them can be found elsewhere, the only holy unique animals being the ibex, the fallow deer, the European badger, and the fire salamander, all of which were added in the Europe pack. The thing with European animals is that all of them either A. live elsewhere, like moose and polar bears for example or B. have a better equivalent elsewhere, for example, Canadian lynx > Eurasian lynx, American bison > European bison, elk > fallow deer, honey badgers > European badgers. Hence why there are so few European animals in the game. There are a total of 11 enclosure animals (still more than South America somehow) and 2 exhibit animals

Australia

In last place, to my personal shock, is Australia with 9. NINE!?!? What is this travesty! I get that most Australian wildlife is pretty small but still, there are so many unique and interesting animals in Australia, Wombats, Tasmanian devils, emus, FUCKING PLATIPI! You’d think there would at least be a bunch of exhibit animals but no, there are only 4, the death adder, the brown snake, the cockroach, and the blue-tongued lizard. As for the 5 enclosure animals, the saltwater croc is the only one in the base game and is also found in Asia. the other four the red kangaroo, the koala, the dingo, and the cassowary, were all added in the Australian pack. So out of all the continents this is the one that should get expanded upon the most in future DLC
