Hello Placerville folks, I hope it is OK to post this here as it seems that this would be the nearest town big enough to have its own subreddit near Shingle Springs.
I am/was scheduled to pet sit for someone this weekend in Shingle Springs. Then she said she was probably going to cancel due to the fire smoking out her campground. But then she said that the campground manager told her it isn't that smoky so it sounds like she is planning to go.
However, at this point I am concerned that the fire could come back toward Shingle Springs/Placerville area. I'm having a hard time finding all the most up-to-date news, so if anyone could provide links of social media pages for entities managing the fire and local weather, I'd appreciate it.
But regardless we are seeing that the common theme is a lot of unpredictability. I'm also wondering if she is really making a wise decision to go camping somewhere there is any smoke. What if her campsite is evacuated, or the highways are closed and she can't get back at the end of the weekend when I am supposed to leave to go home?
This is a professional pet sitting gig and I worry it will affect my reputation as a pet sitter if I cancel so I'm kind of looking for advice on whether the risk is enough for it to be worth it.
I know many people have more important things to do than answer this question but thank you if anyone is willing and able to weigh in or provide information.
Edited to add: Thanks everyone for weighing in and providing some reassurance. For better or worse I and the pet owners did end up cancelling due to uncertainty in their plans due to smoke.
