I was so excited to finally get my 1600 a couple weeks back. I did a few dry runs checking temps, finding hot spots, and more or less doing essential research. Thought I had it dialed in and figured out, so I ran 4 briskets overnight at 230f.
I got one lump of charcoal, 2 only half edible, and one good one.
This thing blows. It's temp probe for the heat settings is in a terrible spot, the chimney is too high in the body, that searing thing just ruins the whole layout. I'm seeing 30 degree variances from side to side.
So anybody hacked one yet? Maybe a temp controller with a second probe that will average instead of just a single probe as far away from everything as possible? Or temp probes that can use the built in jacks and aren't 20 degrees under what they should be?
I don't know whether to sell it, scrap it, or hack it. And I'm pissed for having dropped a grand on this.
