Recently made a post about how Big Mom was the best foreshadowed character in all of One Piece, now it's time to talk about why Bonney is the worst.

Pre -Time Skip

Despite their being over a decade between Lola's introduction and Big Mom's introduction, if I put them side by side you would know instantly that's her daughter. Kuma appears in the story before Bonney and mind you Bonney is Kuma's reason for basically existing and we get 0 hints he even has a daughter until Reverie.

You mean to tell me he can carry around a Bible, but he couldn't carry a piece of meat? and old toy of hers? hell i'd event take a strand of pink hair at this point. Big Mom told Lola to go fuck herself and she's STILL obsessed with getting married to make amends yet Kuma didn't keep a single memento from his kid he didn't think he'd ever see again?

Let's bench the fact that Kuma mentions Bonney a grand 0 times pre-timeskip.

Our first introduction to Bonney is her cringing with the rest of the supernovas at Zoro because he doesn't know the rules of Royal Nobles. But after learning about her backstory.... how the FUCK does she know the rules about the Royal Nobles?

She's 7 and had a whole village sheltering her from the truth of her birth, so how does she know this stuff when literally none of the Strawhats do?

Blackbeard Captures her and knows about her, calls her weak and instead of offering to be their apprentice/ shipgirl, asks her to directly be his girlfriend. Akainu knows how dangerous she actually is and the marines capture her.

Post -Time skip

the first time we see Bonney post time skip is reverie and now she finally has a storyline. she says "I didn't expect to see him this soon." when she sees Kuma, but in her egghead backstory she literally went to Sabody to see Kuma....maybe she meant this soon at the Reverie, i'll let that slide.

But then we get her actual backstory In egghead, and yeah it's sad; but it doesn't explain much. In fact it does what no backstory should do, it makes everyone look significantly worse.

It's worse that Blackbeard sexually propositioned a 7 year old, that Akainu somehow let a 7 year old escape not once, but twice. that a 7 year old has more understanding of the world then all of the Strawhats when she's been sheltered her entire life.

I also get that Bonney is adopted, but Bonney can also completely control her appearance, the fact she took 0 of her dad's attributes yet continues to be in her bustiest form possible at 7 is peak Oda trap writing.

Bonney is literally the 2nd strongest strawhat behind Luffy, she can control the pacifistas over the fucking gorosei, defeat Vice admirals that gave giants a hard time like it's nothing, and of course go Nika mode! but she is NOWHERE near a well written character.
