Hi everyone! I was looking at the post yesterday about Abzan Midrange and I saw a few comments saying that it doesn't really work all too well, and that especially [[Siege Rhino]] is not good enough in the current meta. Like the OP of that post, I really really like the Rhino so I wanted to try and find a home for it.
I brewed up this Abzan Incidental Lifegain deck to try and test out a nifty interaction between [[Vito, Thorn of the Duskrose]] and Siege Rhino. It's not so much an interaction as turn 3 vito, turn 4 rhino draining your opponent for 6 life is brutal. And if you're able to stick [[Obzedat, Ghost Council]] next turn you're draining 4 every turn and swinging in with some moderately big creatures.
I padded out the rest of the deck with other cards like:
[[Charming Prince]] - who is absolutely an all-star giving repeated flickers, smoothing your draws, or extra drain with Vito)
[[Lone Rider]] - who is probably on the chopping block because of the inconsistencies in flipping him.
[[Famished Paladin]] - who is also on the chopping block but can untap pretty consistently
[[Kalitas, Traitor of Ghet]] - again, incidental lifegain from the lifelink but a strong card all around
[[Kunoros, Hound of Athreos]] - who I think is greatly underestimated and is a great value creature
So my question for you all is whether this has any teeth? I think the biggest problem with this deck is consistency, and that Vito is definitely the strongest payoff for gaining life. Both Lone Rider and Famished Paladin are just okay, and other options that I was looking at (like [[Cliffhaven Vampire]] or [[Marauding Blight-Priest]]) just felt too weak to justify a spot. That being said, I do really think that this deck can do some pretty cool things with just some fine tuning.
