Hey guys, I’ve been following this subreddit for a while and have lost weight, been going to the gym for 6 weeks now, and am working on myself. While I haven’t really hit the numbers I want to yet, I tend to do better on natural interactions.
Here’s the fumble, with the off chance to have another opportunity:
After I worked out, I went to the ground floor outside my building to smoke. I grab my mail on the way to read it and rip it apart if it’s useless, and as I’m doing that, this woman enters the building and says something. I have AirPods plugged in, I pause the song, and she asks if I have a lighter. I say yeah, gimme a minute. I tear the mail, throw it in the can, walk out, she follows, and I give her the lighter while I take out my spliff.
She lights her cigarette up, I light my spliff up, and I ask her where she’s coming from. She tells me she’s filling in for a friend as a bartender in midtown, and is coming back because a bar fight broke out. Asks me which floor I live on, what I do. I ask her the same, she tells me she’s Turkish, lives with a cousin and a friend. She asks me what I do for fun, I tell her and ask her. Then I go in for the big q- do you have a boyfriend? She says no, I had one but things were different, I’m focusing on other priorities right now. I’m like yeah, it gets hard to keep a relationship going in Toronto.
Her cigarette runs out, I offer her the spliff, and she’s like no it makes my throat dry, I only take gummies. Then she says I’ll just light another one, asks for the lighter again. Tells me she feels bad about the bar fight, because it was a customer who got mad at her. I say no way you caused that, then I proceed to tell her this stuff happens. Then she goes like your view must be way better than mine (she’s on 5th and I’m on the 26th), I’m like yeah it’s nice but the balcony could be nicer. In hindsight, maybe this was a green light to go in for the pull. I didn’t realize.
In this time, she lit her third cigarette up, and we’re talking about the recently opened amenities of the building, other places she’s lived downtown. In the moment I thought maybe I should let this first interaction build rapport and go in for the pull on the 2nd/3rd interaction. We exchanged names, and a homeless guy passing us made me forget to ask for her number. Dumb fucking luck. On the off chance I see her again, how should I approach it? Definitely ask for the number, maybe set up a date?
Also to those of you who are more experienced, I realize this probably sounds like a rookie mistake but please share your advice.
