Hey everyone!

I was browsing Google looking for "best phones reddit 2021", found this sub-reddit and thought I would give this a shot! Thanks for everyone's time and expertise.

A bit about myself and purchase habits:

  • I don't need to seek the latest and greatest cellphone every 2 years, I typically buy a phone and run it to the ground. (Best bang for the buck kind of mindset and try to be frugal where I can)
  • I am also clumsy and rough with my phones and I usually will drop them or scratch the screen so I can't get a really expensive phone

Based on the above, I'd be heartbroken if I dropped $1000 because I most likely will drop that phone and I can't justify spending so much on myself. Therefore, I'm seeking a mid-range phone to a max of $600 preferably (i might be able to justify up to $700. maybe.)

Past phones:

  1. OnePlus One (Loved this phone to death, until the screen stopped working properly)
  2. OnePlus X (Sucked)
  3. Current phone - Moto G7 Play (Bought it as a cheap phone from Costco just to get me by, it's held up for almost 2 years now but it's getting really laggy)

I typically use my phone to browse social media (IG, FB, etc.), watch videos on, and read documents from. I have a couple of games on it but I don't really play that many games on the phone. I've noticed that all of my phones (except the OnePlus One) suffered from always having low internal storage space and getting really laggy. My current phone even has an expandable SD slot but I'm finding it hard to move files over to SD card and free up space. So the next phone I'm looking for must have a lot of internal storage and doesn't become laggy after a couple of years (I think this means I need more RAM?)

Characteristics of the phone I'm looking for:

  • Size: No major preference but being able to hold the phone with one hand is nice?
  • Storage: Absolute minimum is 64 GB, but interested in at least 128 GB or 256 GB internal storage
  • Camera: Important - I enjoy taking photos/videos and would like a high quality camera
  • Headphone jack: Yes
  • Needed immediately? No, I can wait until Black Friday or even Boxing Day if I have to. I'll just bear with the laggy phone until then
  • Battery: Everyone enjoys a big battery. I am also the same lol
  • Wi-Fi Calling: I'm with Virgin Mobile right now and I guess only certain phones support Wi-Fi calling (https://www.virginplus.ca/en/support/wifi-calling.html). This is not important since it might limit my options but would be a plus to have.

I was considering the Google Pixel 5a but heard rumors of issues with it so would like to hear other options.

Thanks for your help and time!
