Advice for a long time iPhone user

Post Body

Hi Android folks,

Little background and disclaimer: I haven’t had an android phone since the Droid X2 was released. Honestly that phone was a lot of the reason I moved to iPhone, nothing but problems and I think I went through 3 of them.

I’m debating on jumping back from an iPhone X as I’m sick of not being able to customize my phone the way I’d like, (like not being able to hide or downsize the clock size so I can see pictures on my background, ringtones being complicated, etc.) and as I don’t use iTunes anymore for my music it seems like as good a time as any. Plus maybe just some “Apple product burnout”

What I’d like is something with a decent camera, I have a newborn daughter so I want to be able to take decent quality photos, something with a good amount of storage...I always have at least 64GB on my current phones, and something that maybe can come close to the smoothness of an iPhone.

The scrolling and typing lag was something I had a problem with on my X-2’s...but is that improved across the board, or just an occasional hiccup that happens with android?

I’ve looked at a Pixel 4XL and a LG V40 that seem promising. From what I’ve read Samsung has a bloatware problem? I don’t mind it if I can find a way to remove all the unnecessary junk. (Is that what rooting is for?)

Thanks!

Edit for country: USA

Edit 2: Lots of great replies so far, thank you! I’d like to try them out in person but with stores closed due to current events who knows when that’ll be.
