Can I create a 3d template for changing layers?

I create boxes with custom art on each side. For that purpose I have a template with 6 layers (one for each box side) and if I want to design a new one I open my template, fill each layer and print everything. Now I would like to have an easy way to preview my box in a 3D model before printing. Like applying the layers to a 3D model once and if I change the content, the model changes as well.
Is that possible? Any tutorials how to do that? Thanks
