EDIT: SOLD
Have you ever gone to the grocery store, filled your cart completely full with groceries, then, while the cashier and everyone behind you in line are going 'are you sure you don't need any bags?', you nonchalantly say 'nah I'm good' and shove every last item into one giant backpack, let out a nice grunt and heft it onto your shoulders, then walk the 10 blocks home with it all?
Well you can.
The All-Purpose Lightweight Individual Carrying Equipment (ALICE) model LC-1 Field Pack Large was adopted as standard issue by the US Army in 1973 and was eventually phased out sometime in the 2000s. The main interior space is enormous.
Here is a picture of a 5 gallon water cooler jug sitting inside of it with plenty of room to spare.
It has convenient exterior pockets for grenades and M60 mags, but if you don't have any of those things they also work great for jars of pasta sauce, mayo, pickles, or even jugs of milk.
It comes with the LC-1 Field Pack Frame, which makes carrying it easy (imagine the Ghostbuster pack and you get the idea. In fact, you can take the frame out and use it to make a cosplay Ghostbuster pack...).
The parts are modular, and the straps and buckles and clips and so forth attach in some esoteric and brilliant way that works great, but if you take it apart you will have a week long project getting it all back together (ask me how I know).
$20. Pickup in center city.
It is very much used. It is very much still usable. It is very much being sold AS-IS.
If you think you need it, you definitely need it.
