Looking for some advice.
I am a retired American who finished his career in the Philippines and then stayed. I worked 35 years as a technical expert in my field (transportation). I worked at all levels - operations, policy, field management, executive management, strategic planning, procurement.
I have a tourist visa now because I'm currently bouncing around Asia enjoying my retirement and I didn't want to purchase a condo in the Philippines. I'm in Manila with my girlfriend.
I was approached by a large company in the Philippines asking if I would like to come out of retirement and be a consultant for them, full time. They offered a work visa, car & driver, condo close to their HQ.
I'm awaiting their "standard consulting contract". They told me to review it and "fill in the blanks". I've never consulted before, and I'm not quite sure how to go about the salary. Should I start with a specific amount of $$$, but then deduct any benefits they provide me (driver, condo, other perks) or just focus on the salary? Should it be hourly pay with descriptions of overtime, or salary?
In my previous employment, I was making nearly $300k a year, so I'm used to a higher salary and I'm quite skilled at my area of expertise. I'm under no illusion that I will earn that amount as a consultant. My work for this company would be very valuable to them. At the same time, I don't want to insult them with a request for 200k pesos a month. But I also don't want to lowball myself.
Anyone been in a similar situation, where you needed to negotiate work with a Philippine company as an expat? Thanks for your feedback.
