Protesting against the nat'l government bears little to no fruit. The executive can still function with low approval ratings from the public, but he cannot function well without the approval of Congress and the Senate.
All regimes whether dictatorial or democratic have a ruling elite, or in other words 'politicians'. They are key to any regime as they are responsible for creating and perpetuating policy. A divided Congress and Senate can kill a proposed bill or filibuster a political act, as seen with Roseller T. Lim who filibustered the appointment of F. Marcos to the President of the Senate for 18 hours.
And so, in order to effectively protest we need to affect the governing body. Involve yourself with your local community, issue silent protests indirected to the local government but to its policies (for safety reasons) and most of all, participate. Either in political campaigns or within the political sphere or even in the civil servant body. The only way to pressure change is to start from the ground up.
Kahit anong kagandahang loob ang meron sa presidente kung di naman mabuti ang sumasailalim sakanya at mga sunasailalim sa kanila, wala din tayong mapapala. It's time we stopped riding on the wave of idealism and assuming the moral high ground, for good change to be enacted we need to get down and dirty. That starts by influencing the bottom ranks of the political sphere.
