No, protesting online is not the end-all be-all of our exercising of free speech. But you people need to understand that some people have families and ties they need to protect for fear of their lives and privacy. Might I remind people that online protests opted several public officials to overturn their 'yes' education bill vote.
People who stay indoors and protest online is perfectly fine so long as that is justified with their own incapability to do anything under THEIR circumstances. People get beaten, arrested or killed in the quarantine, and I think this is gonna sound surprising to some of you but Manila is not the PH. Might I remind people that quarantine is in effect and why is this a problem?
Escalation of violence and arrests due to quarantine. Just a couple days ago a media worker was shot dead while on a ride with his wife and an activist slain as his son gets death threats. I know that protesting against these injustices is noble, but for people who have to protect people they care about, it is entirely justifiable.
Easy to take the moral high ground and say "I protested, I did something" when ordinary people need to go about their day and/or prioritize their fanily's safety. Talk about being out of touch with reality, people have livelihoods and connections they aren't willing to sacrifice under a slim chance of getting the "real message" out.
