Not being in line with their political views but don't get me wrong. I didn't say all, I said some and I am well aware of DDS and others not from UP doing the same thing. But by volume of people who proclaim to be pro-people but at the same time encourage silencing sensitive but credible perspectives because it's deemed "anti-poor" UP inadvertantly stands out.
Fuck red-tagging, there is an ethical breach when it comes to labelling someone as such because of the fact that the NBI and PNP are brutally cracking down on potential communist insurgents. However, the issue of labelling someone or even this administration as fascist without careful scrutiny is intellectually irresponsible. Through the same logic as labelling someone automatically fascist, we can apply the same logic to red-tagging, because it's virtually the same.
Now, maganda na pinagtatanggol niyo yung mahirap, I myself have participated in activism. But taking a single political side and ramming it with all your power and might does not make for productive political discourse. People get alienated if you take the moral high ground without ever applying the same amount of scrutiny that you display toward those you criticize, to yourself.
If you want change, be change. If you want our politics not to be defined by color, then take a color blind solution and be intellectually responsible rather than following a common narrative from your friend group. Think critically, because freedom of speech without criticizing your own beliefs is the first step to being oppressed. All love.
