so weeks ago duterte’s “secret deal” was unveiled and i feel and i fear that the chinese are acting quickly to solidify this deal.
they are doing so at the moment by sending not one, not two, but literally THOUSANDS of chinese nationals to Cagayan, thanks to the stupidity of their governor.
i have said in previous posts here in reddit that the role of the philippines is vital in case a taiwan invasion happens. Philippines is a key player since it will definitely contain China in an event of an invasion. you have japan and korea in the north, the philippines in the south, and by creating edca bases in philippines especially in a place like cagayan where it is geographically close to taiwan, it is not only helpful in supporting taiwan but also will be helpful in an event that knocks on wood china tries to occupy more of our land.
so now, what’s happening in cagayan might just be an open sabotage of not only our forces, but also forces that potentially could stop china from bullying other nations.
this is an interesting geopolitical time in asia pacific region because we now have to take a side. it is not the time to be neutral. for example you have countries like thailand who are planning to build a canal bypassing singapore strait. thailand is an important chinese ally and by creating a canal you have an alternative to the singapore strait - it would be difficult to contain china since singapore strait is the only route for chinese supplies.
with the case of philippines, we have a president who, as far as we know, is uncertain of his foreign policies. you have a VP who is completely useless when it comes to china. you have LGUs accommodating loads of chinese nationals.
and finally, a former president (who is leading in senatorial polls) who made a secret agreement with china.
what is this secret agreement? is it reversible? what are the stipulations? what are the effects of it to the ordinary filipino?
this is such an anxiety inducing time all thanks to - non other than - the filipino voters who gave them a platform in the first place.
now we are experiencing of what could potentially be a philippine version of “Leave the World Behind” - a story of a country that destroyed itself.
p.s. oh yeah. china can control our power grid, and they can launch a cyberattack.
