Hi there, I am new to the game, and I am looking for some tips, but not necessarily the ones you can find on Youtube. Do people memorize the maps to find hidings spots during the ghost events? Or do they do a good look around before? Also, for some reason, I was not scared at all watching youtube videos about this game, but this game is unusually frightening for me when I play it (got off 30 mins ago, still shaking), so any tips on that to those who have had a similar experience? Also, in multiplayer, the only difficulty I am seeing people play is professional, is that just a thing? Thanks for the help guys, means a lot to me, canβt wait to dive into this game for myself instead of watching hours of it on YouTube.
Edit: Also, side note, maybe my fear of the game came from getting a demon first round and getting insta hunted, or maybe its just the deafening silence that is broken by the ghost messing around. Needless to say I alt f4βd as soon as I entered that house
finding the ghost room
you typically can't figure out which ghost it is without first narrowing down where it is. Look up the location of the breaker on the map in the van, and go turn it on to "let the house warm up". listen carefully for things being moved around and the ghost touching doors/windows. use emf to figure out which door/window was touched or item was moved/thrown. after the "house has warmed up" for a few mins, you could also use the temp scanner to aid in your search. you're looking for 10C and under, temp wise.
different ghosts have different combinations of evidence, and sometimes you'll see evidence in the beginning that helps you determine the ghost room. "ghost orbs" can only be seen through a video camera on nightview settings in the actual ghost room itself. use a uv light to check for "fingerprints", on doors/windows. freezing temps/seeing your breath is also one of the evidences. the ghost often can and will roam temporarily to other rooms at almost any time (and switch preferred rooms entirely in some difficulties!), so take all the signs/activity you see, and the room that has the most activity is usually the ghost room.
safety/staying alive
At the start of the game as you're looking around the map for the ghost room, make a mental note of where you can or cannot hide, and decide in advance where you are going to hide when the ghost starts hunting. as you play the game, ask yourself "if the ghost hunted me RIGHT NOW, where would i go hide?"
You are never 100% safe when you're in the house/building, even if you're far from the ghost room. Always be ready for a hunt. on any difficulty level, all ghosts can both teleport to your location for ghost events and roam out of the ghost room naturally. some ghosts can specifically wander towards you or teleport to your location not in a ghost event. on some difficulty settings, they can change ghost rooms. anytime a player is in the house and your sanity is within hunting range, the ghost could decide to start a hunt, whether it's in the ghost room or not.
when you do finally end up getting hunted, know that the ghost can detect electronics and hear you if you make any noise. be quiet, and turn electronics off or drop them. crouch close to the ground so you can see where you're going better in the dark. if you absolutely must have a flashlight on to get to a hiding spot, use it very sparingly and make sure the flashlight is off several seconds before you enter the hiding spot.
