Hello! I’m Juice, I’m 31, mixed half filipino, born/raised in Canada. Due to immigrant assimilation into Canada for me to “fit in”, I was never taught tagalog, the Philippine ways, the history, and our family ancestry by my mom during childhood. Nor was the interest ever there. Maybe just small crumbs, but that’s about it. My goal is to get myself to be fluent in Tagalog with the assistance of a tutor. Someone preferably who knows their stuff and I see this happening by 30 minuites to an hour sessions over video call through What’s App/IG/Discord.
Now, why am I so driven to get this down? To defy those whom called me “White Washed” over the years growing up, excluded me with the cold shoulder and telling me I will never be “one of them”. To break the stigma of being “just a half pinoy”. This is also out of my own personal journey in continuing to find myself. Recently I’ve been pulling my own weight to get up to speed. Exposing myself to more ABSCBN, pinoy movies, FlipTop (Hev Abi, Zae, Skusta Clee, Illest Morena, etc), and VivaMax (😉😏😏). Hindi ako fluent sa tagalog, pero, I’ve been on FilipinoPod101 and youtube, but it’s still not enough in understanding the grammar. It’s at the point where it needs to be explained in person beyond just words/letters and arrows on a slideshow. These are the following topics that I’m stuck in and need help with: - Word order with prepositional phases - Subject-Verb Agreement - Word order with modifiers - May, Mayroon, Meron Rules - Ay Inversions - Common forms of Filipino verbs with affixes
Examples in nature referring to each of these topics can be shown/provided, should more context be needed.
Then after this, is just working on sentence structure, which I’m aware is VSO and VOS.
Any questions/concerns, DMs open.
Maraming maraming salamat 🤙🏽
