I am conducting all my interviews in sign language (I'm deaf and so are my subjects). My supervisors and I have decided that I'll be using outside translation to get the interviews into English so I can work with them, primarily because for me to do it myself would introduce bias to the translation and I don't want to start interpreting data while also translating it.
Obviously I cannot use automatic translation for sign language, but I'm curious, for those of you working with different spoken languages, is that something you use? Do you do the translations yourself? Do you pay translators?
Just curious how others handle it!
