How do I discourage my cat from tasting things that are not edible

Every few minutes it's the extension plug with him and if not that it's licking at the chicken wire and it's freaking me out because these have metal right? Do cats normally do this? His siblings don't, is there something I can spray on these to make it repulsive to him or something?
