I recently adopted a 12 year old female cat named Ariel. Her previous caretakers got her when she was a year old. The last 3 years they had to keep her in a room by herself because their daughter had allergies and they struggled to find someone who would adopt her.
The first month seemed to go well, but now she has idiopathic cystitis. I have taken her to the vet a few times and we've tried different medications, but she still is in a lot of pain and urinating outside the litter box.
I'm not sure what more I can do. I pet her and play with her every day, I clean her litter box every morning, her diet now consists of wet food, and I have a feliway diffuser.
She doesn't even want me to pet her head sometimes. When she pees she will start crying out in pain for a little while. I feel so bad for her.
