Advice on how to reduce smoking frequency for chronic pain

Post Body

Hi!

I hope I’m on the right subreddit for this. I’m looking for advice on how to decrease the frequency I smoke (it varies, but on average it’s 3-4x a day).

I started smoking when I was 18 because someone recommended it to me as a pain relief method 3 months before my cancer diagnosis. I’m 24 now and 7 surgeries/a bunch of cancer drugs later, cancer has fucked me and I deal with chronic pain on a daily basis. Since then, I’ve preferred the use of weed over narcotics for controlling my pain, but… I live in Texas and I’m currently trying to get a job in a research/health setting so I’m afraid my time smoking has come to an end.

I’m working with my doctors and what not to figure out alternative pain medications I can take on a daily basis that aren’t narcotics, but I was just hoping to find someone that might have had a similar experience or even advice that isn’t in the context of chronic pain management. Any and all advice would be greatly appreciated :)
